MANCHESTER UNITED midfielder Nemanja Matic is open to joining Inter Milan if the right deal can be agreed.
That’s according to journalist Duncan Castles, who claims Inter have already made ‘an amusingly low offer’ of £9m plus Radja Nainggolan for the Serbian this summer.
United already look set to lose one of their star midfielders this summer, with Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola recently confirming his client wants to leave Old Trafford amid reported interest from Real Madrid.
And now they are facing a fight to keep hold of Matic, who is wanted by former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte at the San Siro.
Castles doesn’t think he will push for a move in similar fashion to Pogba, but he insists the 30-year-old is open to joining Conte’s Inter if the two clubs can strike an agreement.

“I can tell you that there’s been an offer from Internazionale for Nemanja Matic, which is quite an amusingly low offer of €10m [£9m] plus the Inter player Nainggolan – who is in his 30s – so quite an ambitious offer I think from Inter to see if they could get Matic out of the club that way,” he said on The Transfer Window podcast.
“[AC] Milan are also interested in the player. I don’t believe they’ve made a formal offer to Manchester United at this stage, although Milan are possibly in a better position in that they’ve taken their Financial Fair Play punishment out of Europe and therefore can afford, from a Financial Fair Play perspective, to put a higher transfer fee down.
“As we’ve told you before, Inter have to be careful in terms of how much they spend on transfers in this particular summer to avoid future Financial Fair Play issues of their own.
“And Matic, while I’m told he will not push for that move, he will not go down the Paul Pogba route, which should come as no surprise to anyone that knows Nemanja Matic as an individual, he would be open to speaking to both of those clubs if a deal can be agreed with Manchester United in the sense that each of them would have to offer them at least the same financial terms as he is being paid at Manchester United.

“If they get an offer that’s acceptable to them, [Nemanja Matic] is prepared to move to Italy”
“It would be a longer-term contract, so in terms of his long-term security for himself and to look after his family, the possibility of having an extended deal and moving to Serie A, living in Milan, is not unattractive to him.
“But I’m told he’s not actively pushing to leave. He will leave that decision to Manchester United to make.
“If they get an offer that’s acceptable to them, he’s prepared to move to Italy.”
Matic has featured 87 times for United since completing a £40m move from Chelsea in 2017.

He was a key member of Conte’s 2016/17 Premier League title winning squad at Stamford Bridge, making 35 league appearances as the Blues comfortably became champions with a then-record amount of wins .
Conte was later left disappointed, however, when the club allowed Matic to join United the following season, saying at the time: “Matic knows very well what I think about him.
“The importance for me about this player, who is a really good player, a top player, very important for our team, but sometimes you must accept this crazy transfer market.
“And sometimes you must accept different decisions. But he is a great loss for us.”
