Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed Odion Ighalo on transfer deadline day.
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is planning to sign a ‘high-profile’ centre-forward this summer, reports say. And the Norwegian is also eager to sign Odion Ighalo on a permanent basis with the 30-year-old scoring four times for the club since joining on loan from Shanghai Shenhua in January.
Manchester United boss Solskjaer sent shockwaves around the footballing world when he swooped for Ighalo on transfer deadline day.
But the Nigeria international has silenced his critics by scoring four times since his January arrival.
Solskjaer hinted at signing Ighalo permanently after the Nigerian’s stunning strike against LASK on Thursday, saying: “Odion has come in really well and he will improve and get better.
“But he has qualities we saw in him and needed and we need those qualities for next season.
“He’s a goal-scorer and a striker. He doesn’t worry too much about all that nonsense, build-up play – that’s a joke obviously.
“He knows his job and role in the team, and he’s very good with his back to goal.
“He’s a great link player, but maybe the best thing about him is his personality. He’s got the whole lot really.”

And the Mirror say that United are keen on signing Ighalo permanently amid his sensational form.
On top of that, though, the Red Devils also want a ‘high-profile’ centre-forward to compete with the Nigerian for a starting berth.
No names are mentioned.
But United are understood to hold Lyon hotshot Moussa Dembele in high regard, with the France international shining in Ligue 1 this season.
Dembele has hit 16 goals in the league this season from 27 matches and is also on the radar of Chelsea.
And United are also admirers of RB Leipzig hitman Timo Werner.

The Germany international has been in sensational form in the Bundesliga, finding the net 21 times from 25 games.
Werner also has four goals in the Champions League this season but, again, United face a fight when it comes to securing the striker’s signature.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is eyeing a move for his compatriot, despite the fine displays of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
And Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is also eyeing a move for the 24-year-old.
Another striker United have been linked with of late is Harry Kane, who could leave Tottenham if Spurs end the season without Champions League football.
And BBC Sport pundit Danny Murphy has endorsed a move for the England international, while also urging United to go for Jadon Sancho and Declan Rice.
He told the Daily Mail: “It’s going to be a crucial summer for Manchester United.
“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has impressed me in the manner he’s steadied a rocky ship, now the club need to take a forward step to challenge Liverpool and Manchester City.
“That doesn’t mean a radical overhaul because they already have good players at Old Trafford.
“Three top-quality signings in key positions could make all the difference moving them to the next level.
“Imagine if Harry Kane, Jadon Sancho and Declan Rice were at United? They’d be in good shape to compete for any trophy.
“I understand those three, even if they were desperate to join United, would cost at least £260m.”
