Man Utd followers LOVE Anthony Martial’s elegant message to former boss Louis van Gaal

MANCHESTER UNITED fans absolutely love Anthony Martial’s classy retirement message to former boss Louis van Gaal today.

Van Gaal, 67, announced he has bowed out from the game on Dutch TV.

The Dutchman had been out of work since being sacked by United at the end of the 2015/16 season.

And after managing for almost 30 years, Van Gaal has now decided to call time on his career in the dugout.

Speaking to Dutch TV show VTBL, he said: “I am a pensioner now. I have no ambition to be a technical director or a TV pundit.

“My wife Truus gave up her job for me 22 years ago and followed me when I went abroad.

“I told her I would quit as a coach when I turned 55, but instead kept going until I was 65.

“She is entitled to have a life with me outside of football. I can say she is very happy.

“I think I could have worked as a technical director. But in this role you can’t attend training or say anything for fear it won’t suit the coach, directors or media. I don’t think I want a job like that.”

“Thanks for everything coach!! It was a honor to learn from you!”

Martial scored 17 goals in 49 games under Van Gaal in 2015/16, a return that remains his best as a United player since joining from Monaco at the beginning of that campaign.

He paid tribute to his old boss on Twitter today, tweeting: “Thanks for everything coach!! It was a honor to learn from you!”

And United fans were quick to praise the Frenchman for his kind words.

One said: “Well said Tony, very classy. All the best Louie!”

Another tweeted: “Very well said bro!!”

And one hailed Van Gaal for bringing Martial to the club, saying: “He allowed us to have Martial FC. Louis, we will always be thankful!”

Van Gaal led United to fourth and fifth-place finishes in his two years at Old Trafford, while also winning the FA Cup in 2016.

However, two days after doing so the former Ajax boss was dismissed and replaced by Jose Mourinho.
