A MAN who went to pick up a “dead leaf” off the ground ended up discovering an incredibly well-disguised animal.
The clip shows the man attempting to pick up what appears to be a brown, dry leaf.
Suddenly the dead leaf moves and a pair of fluttering black and yellow wings appear, before flying back to the ground and instantly disguising itself once again.
The footage shows two other clips of the nymphalid butterfly revealing itself.
The creatures are part of the largest family of the insects and are typically found in countries such as Asia, India and Japan.
When they have their wings closed, the orange oakleaf, Indian oakleaf and dead leaf all sport almost unnoticeable camouflage of a dry leaf with dark veins.
The incredible video was captioned: “Have you ever seen a dead leaf turn into a butterfly? You have now.”
One viewer stated: “That’s how creatures survive in nature. They adapt and survive, or get raked up in the autumn.”
“Wow, a great magic trick,” another said.
“This is mental,” a third person added.
