A shopper has been killled after an out-of-control car ploughed into him outside an Aldi supermarket.
The man was standing next to his car at the Kingston Central Plaza in Moorabbin in Melbourne’s south when a Toyota Corolla driven by an 83-year-old struck him.
Paramedics fought to revive the victim but he was declared dead at the scene about 1pm on Wednesday.
The man was yet to be formally identified.
Police questioned the 83-year-old Corolla driver who was with a 76-year-old female passenger.
A witness said the driver had accelerated onto the footpath outside the store.
‘It’s terrible…they sped up onto the path and hit him as they tried to come down,’ a witness told Herald Sun.
Another witness said the victim’s face had turned ‘blue’ as he lay bleeding on the footpath.
‘He had a big gash on his head… people were trying to lift him up, it was terrible,’ she said.
