M1 traffic: Three lorries collision on the highway, causing seven miles of delays.
A PART OF THE M1 has been closed due to a crash involving three lorries, causing considerable waits for motorists.
After the crash near junction 15a for Northampton, there are seven miles of tailbacks on the M1 southbound. Cameras from Highways England show traffic bottlenecks past junction 16 for Weedon Bec and Upper Heyford.
All lanes were closed, except one, which reopened around 1.45 p.m. Highways England has advised drivers to add 45 minutes to their journey timings.
Alternative roads, such as the A5 through Weedon Bec and Stowehill, and the A4500 through and around Northampton, are equally congested.
Due to bystanders, the M1 northbound is delayed on the same section.
Tailbacks have been reported past junction 15 for Northampton south and Roade, according to authorities.
It’s unclear whether anyone was hurt in the crash and, if so, how badly.
A representative for Highways England stated, “We are now working to relieve the stranded traffic and get a further lane back.”
“We’ll update our feed as soon as this happens. However, we do not have an ETA at this time.”
