Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp ready for more Istanbul success ahead of Chelsea showdown

JURGEN KLOPP wants to create more Istanbul history for Liverpool fans against Chelsea to add to their amazing 2005 Champions League experience.

At the same time, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard insists he is as keen as ever to look to the future of the club and backed Mason Mount and the rest of his young players despite their 4-0 mauling at Old Trafford.

There is no better inspiration for bouncing back than Liverpool’s remarkable shoot-out success across the city against AC Milan after trailing 3-0 14 years ago.

And Klopp said: “I know about the special importance and what a special place Istanbul is for Liverpool supporters.

“2005 – nobody will ever forget that, and that is good. But we are different people and unfortunately we are not the same team in 2019-20 – although it is a good team as well.

“If I am right, I believe there is a pretty good community of Liverpool supporters in Istanbul as well. That makes it special for us.

“Both teams are fresh, we want to play and I hope we can make it a special place for ourselves again.”

N’Golo Kante faces a late fitness test on an ankle injury for Chelsea with Lampard still happy to rely on youth.

“I completely pick the best team I see to win the game regardless of age,” the Chelsea boss said. “It’s very important to have a competitive team.

“For example, Mason Mount deserves his chance completely on merit as opposed to age I will have no fears to play young players because it’s important for a club like Chelsea that we do that.

“Mason has a fantastic attitude. He has incredible energy and work ethic.

“It is pivotal, he has a fantastic talent to make assists, score goals and scoring goals is something he will step up as he improves.

“I am a huge fan of his and there’s so much more to come from him.”
