Fresh off its first win under Herm Edwards, Arizona State hosts No. 13 Michigan State in a big non-conference showdown. Check back throughout Saturday night’s game for live updates and notes.
Let the games begin
It’s finally time for Sparky vs. Sparty.
As the teams took the field, it was 100 degrees in Tempe, marking the 12th time since 2002 that it has been triple digits for a kickoff in Sun Devil Stadium. Meanwhile, in East Lansing, it was 56 degrees.
With men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo as an honorary captain, Michigan State won the toss. The Spartans elected to kick, with their backs to a raucous student section, all dressed in black.
ASU went three-and-out on its first possession, giving the ball right back to the Spartans with just about a minute off the clock.
Despite the heat, Arizona State players took the field in all black to warm up for their bout with No. 13 Michigan State Saturday.
Historically, ASU has two things working in its favor: the Sun Devils have fared well at home against Big Ten opponents and against anyone in the heat.
