PARIS, July 13 (Xinhua) — French Ligue 1 club Lille announced on Saturday that they have signed Brazilian goalkeeper Leo Jardim until 2024.
The 24-year-old Jardim started his professional career in Gremio in 2014. He joined Portuguese outfit Rio Ave on loan last season, making 38 appearances in all competitions.
The former Brazilian under-20 international footballer won the Copa Libertadores with Gremio in 2017.
“This is a very good opportunity for me in my life, and I want to seize it. It’s a new challenge, a dream that comes true. I cannot describe how I feel,” Jardim told the club website.
Jardim is seen as a crucial backup to Mike Maignan currently standing between posts for Lille.
Lille, finishing runners-up last season, are destined to feature in UEFA Champions League.
“Being in a group that will play in the UEFA Champions League is very important to me. I cannot wait to feel the atmosphere with fans in our stadium, and I’m very excited to meet my new teammates,” said Jardim.
