Kate Middleton’s friends were taken aback when she asked to be called ‘Jokey’ instead of Kate Middleton.

Prior to becoming Prince William’s fiancée, KATE MIDDLETON allegedly asked her inner circle to start calling her by a different name.

In 2008, the Duchess of Cambridge was still William’s girlfriend when she allegedly sent a few emails to her friends requesting a favor.

Catherine Elizabeth Middleton, the mother of three, was known as Catherine at Marlborough College before switching to Kate at St Andrew’s.

Kate and William met at university and began dating while they were students, so he most likely referred to her as Kate.

According to Sunday Express columnist Adam Helliker, when Kate felt things were getting serious with William, she asked her friends to stop calling her by her nickname.

“With Prince William and Kate Middleton’s engagement now a foregone conclusion, there are intriguing signs that Kate Middleton is preparing for her future role,” he wrote.

“She appears to be taking it very seriously as well.”

“I’ve heard that the former accessories buyer has quietly informed friends in the last few weeks that she would like to drop the informal ‘Kate’ and instead be known by her full name: ‘Catherine.'”

“Everyone knows it’s about to happen with Kate and William,” one friend reportedly told Mr Helliker, “but we were a little surprised about the request to call her Catherine.”

“I have a feeling she’s starting to realize how vulnerable she is.”

Middleton’s friends were “a little taken aback” by the request, according to royal expert Daniela Elser, who said it was made in a “gentle” and “very jokey” manner.

The Palace allegedly encouraged journalists to call the bride Catherine during the royal wedding in 2011, according to royal correspondent Rebecca English.

The nickname Kate, on the other hand, seems to have stuck.

“I believe they thought it was more formal, dignified, and royal,” Ms English explained.

“To be fair, her family calls her by that name.”

“They were, without a doubt, largely ignored.”

Prince Charles’ press secretary, Paddy Harverson, denied the reports at the time.

Kate still signs off her emails with a “C” and uses her full name in all official royal correspondence.

Prince William reportedly wished for his wife to be referred to as “Princess Catherine” prior to their wedding.

However, due to royal protocol, this was not possible.
