Karren Brady speaks out over Meghan Markle’s ‘woke’ 40th birthday ‘publicity stunt.’
KARREN BRADY has spoken out in support of Meghan Markle after she announced a new humanitarian effort in honor of her 40th birthday.
Meghan Markle’s 40×40 initiative has piqued Karren Brady’s interest. It encourages 40 people to provide 40 minutes of their time to assist a woman who is returning to work after the epidemic.
Some are calling it a PR gimmick, but what a wonderful line-up Karren Brady has put together. The 52-year-old has today weighed in on the Duchess of Sussex’s backlash.
In her latest piece, the Apprentice star argued that “we all need a mentor” and praised the royal’s notion.
Those who felt Meghan’s decision was “woke” and “publicity seeking” received a rebuke from Karren.
Critics should “acknowledge that this is a wonderful endeavour,” she said.
It comes after Meghan made the announcement on the miletsone’s birthday on Wednesday.
In a hilarious video alongside actress Melissa McCarthy, she delivered her message.
Adele, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and fashion designer Stella McCartney are among those who have pledged 40 minutes of their time.
“Some individuals have been casting aspersions on the Duchess of Sussex’s decision to announce a new venture on her 40th birthday,” Karren wrote.
“… The Duchess, who looked stunning and was seen for the first time since the birth of Lilibet two months ago, said she wanted individuals all over the world to commit to mentoring women returning to work for 40 minutes.
“This is a tremendous cause, since during the epidemic, over two million women in the United States and tens of millions throughout the world lost their jobs,” Karren said, expressing her support for Meghan’s decision.
“Some are calling it a publicity stunt,” she said, “but what a fantastic line-up of ladies she has waiting to support other women.”
“Whatever you think of Meghan, this is such a good way to honor turning 40 – by urging women to encourage other women back into the workplace,” the mother-of-two continued in The Sun on Sunday.
“We all need a mentor and a helping hand, and even those who think it’s woke’ and’publicity seeking’ must admit that this is a wonderful initiative.” Australians were among those who mocked Meghan for the video. “Brinkwire News in Condensed Form.”
