In the midst of the “houseboat” mystery, Zack Polanski is listed on the electoral record at Marina but won’t disclose where he pays council tax

Zack Polanski was contacted last night to respond to enquiries over the location of his council tax payments.

The Green Party leader was listed on the electoral roll at a facility in an east London marina where he kept a narrowboat, according to the Daily Mail.

Over several years, Mr Polanski had laundry picked up from the canal barge he shared with his boyfriend, Richie Bryan, and had post delivered to the same marina building.

After Mr. Polanski’s council tax arrangements were questioned this week, the narrowboat’s £100,000 listing was taken down.

Although Mr. Bryan called the boat their “amazing home” for the previous three years in the advertisement, Mr. Polanski, 43, insists he only occasionally stayed on it.

The Greens simply stated, “Zack’s council tax is included in the rent he pays,” in response to enquiries yesterday night on his residence from the previous year and whether he paid council tax on the yacht.

However, the Green leader will receive a letter from the Conservatives today requesting that he respond to “public interest questions on your council tax payments.”

“The Green Party’s statements appear contradictory, and there are questions on whether the correct level of council tax has been paid,” stated Tory chairman Kevin Hollinrake.

Zack Polanski was listed on the electoral roster at a facility in an east London port where he kept a narrowboat, according to The Daily Mail.

The Green Party leader’s council tax arrangements were questioned this week, leading to the removal of the narrowboat’s £100,000 listing.

According to government guidelines, if a yacht is a person’s “sole or main residence” and is thus “treated as a dwelling,” council tax may be due.

According to public records, Mr. Polanski and Mr. Bryan were listed on the voting roll in 2025 at the marina address where the narrowboat was stored. In 2024, his partner was also registered there.

The address’s owner, the Lee Valley Authority, confirmed Wednesday night that the Green leader had not rented the waterfront cottage. According to the authorities, when a staff member moved into the property in July 2025, they found that “a handful of” berth holders had “used the address for post.”

According to the election record, Mr. Polanski was one of 10 individuals registered in 2025.

According to the administration, everyone else was eliminated when the employee residing at the address called the council to register for the voting roll.

The narrowboat ‘has been our lovely home in the peace and quiet on the River Lea for three years,’ according to a recently removed advertisement for sale.

The Daily Mail saw the advertisement, which continued, “We are moving to a house and so will sadly be leaving the gorgeous community behind,” along with the statement that mooring fees are more than £750 per month.

“If what he wrote here was true, then it seems he should have been paying council tax,” stated tax expert Dan Neidle of Tax Policy Associates.

Despite Mr. Bryan calling the boat their “amazing home” for the previous three years in the advertisement, Mr. Polanski, who is shown with voters, insists he only occasionally remained on it.

Only recreational moorings are permitted in the marina where the narrowboat is situated. Vessels are stored there under “non-residential agreements,” and owners must present documentation of a residential address.

For the previous three years, a local laundrette owner claimed to have picked up Mr Polanski and Mr Bryan’s washing from their narrowboat every two to three weeks.

Mr Polanski and Mr Bryan shared an apartment in Hackney, he recently revealed to The Sunday Times.

The Green leader states that he or his partner “alone or jointly” has a “mooring in London” on his London Assembly registration of interests.

“Zack’s council tax is included in the rent he pays his landlord,” a representative for the Green Party stated. For security concerns, we don’t discuss Zack’s living arrangements.

They further mentioned that Mr. Polanski can only be there on occasion because the marina is for recreational moorings and his primary residence is where he rents.
