In Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s marriage, Princess Diana is the ‘third wheel.’
PRINCESS According to a royal biographer, Diana is the “third wheel” in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s marriage.
For the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, “all roads lead back to Diana,” according to royal author Andrew Morton. Mr Morton went on to say that Harry’s mother, who died in a vehicle accident in Paris in 1997, “formed the couple’s worldview.”
Mr Morton, writing in the Mail on Sunday, said: “Today, all roads lead back to Diana for Harry, and increasingly for his wife.
“His mother’s cause-driven existence, as well as the terrible manner in which she died, have affected not only Harry’s relationship with his family and the wider public, but also the couple’s global perspective.”
Mr Morton, who has a new edition of his book ‘Meghan: A Hollywood Princess,’ said: “Not a day went by without a reference, a memory, or a decision relating in some way to Harry’s late mother as the Sussexes launched on their own journey through Royal life.
“In their marriage, Diana was the third wheel.”
Meghan’s engagement ring included diamonds from Diana’s jewelry collection, according to the royal biographer, who wrote ‘Diana: Her True Story.’
During their engagement interview, Harry expressed his hope that his late mother would accompany them on “this wild adventure.”
“However, as years passed and Meghan struggled with a set of obstacles uncannily similar to those experienced by the mother-in-law she never met, the ghost of Diana would hover over the lives of Prince Harry and his new bride in less joyful ways, too,” Mr Morton added.
Diana “remains a continual inspiration to the pair,” according to the royal expert.
Last year, Harry and Meghan left their royal duties to start a new life in America.
They have two children, Archie and Lili, and live in California.
With a journey to New York, the pair made their first major post-Megxit trip.
While in New York, the Sussexes attended a number of high-profile events.
They began their trip with a stop at the city’s One World Trade Centre.
Along with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and New York State Governor Kathy Hochul, they stood for the media at the top of the building against the panoramic backdrop.
Later, the two met with Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the United States’ ambassador to the United Nations.
