In her movie, Rebel Wilson is referred to as a “fantastical liar who made up terrible allegations against several people.” The Deb as her defamation trial against Charlotte MacInnes draws to a close

A judge has been informed that Rebel Wilson is a liar who fabricated “terrible allegations” about individuals engaged in the production of her movie, The Deb.

In the last hours of a fierce defamation lawsuit brought by Charlotte MacInnes, the lead actor in the musical comedy Wilson helmed, co-produced, and performed in, the Pitch Perfect actress accepted the direct criticism.

According to MacInnes, Wilson disparaged her on social media by implying that she is a liar and a sellout who withdrew a sexual misconduct allegation in order to advance her career.

According to the posts, MacInnes told Wilson—and then denied it—that she was uncomfortable when Amanda Ghost, the co-producer of the movie, offered to take a bath and shower with her.

Following Ms. Ghost’s medical incident in September 2023, MacInnes insists she was not uncomfortable when the two shared a bath in their swimwear. She denies making or retracting a complaint.

In her concluding remarks in the Federal Court on Friday, MacInnes’ attorney Sue Chrysanthou SC accused Wilson of a “complete revision of history” rife with deceit.

A-lister Rebel Wilson has come under fire for fabricating accusations in order to drive a wedge between the budding star and the star of her first film. Rebel Wilson at the 2020 Vanity Fair Oscar Party in California is shown.

In the last hours of a heated defamation lawsuit brought by musical comedy star Charlotte MacInnes, the Pitch Perfect actress accepted the direct criticism. Wilson co-produced, directed, and performed in The Deb. Sue Chrysanthou SC (C), the attorney for Charlotte MacInnes, is seen arriving at the Federal Court of Australia on Friday.

She pointed out that the Bridesmaids actress claimed in court that she informed local producer Greer Simpkin about the purported complaint the day it was made to her.

Ms. Simpkin testified that it wasn’t until Ms. Ghost told her about Wilson’s claim that her co-star was uneasy about the incident that she learned about it.

Ms. Chrysanthou told the court, “We say Ms. Wilson cannot be believed on anything she has said. She is a fantastical liar who has made up terrible, terrible allegations about multiple people and her own witnesses have discredited her.” This was just one instance of the obvious contradictions in Wilson’s testimony that have been refuted by others.”

According to Ms. Chrysanthou, the first-time director is accused of lying to Ms. Ghost about receiving a complaint in order to drive a wedge between her and MacInnes, whom she attempted to portray as a nuisance.

She said that Wilson was determined to damage MacInnes’ connections with other people, as evidenced by a text in which she accused the young actor of giving information to the film’s writer.

The uncontested facts of the toilet event are that there was a medical episode, nobody was uncomfortable, and a witness didn’t believe anything strange had happened.

During her forceful final remarks in the Federal Court on Friday, MacInnes’ attorney Sue Chrysanthou SC accused Wilson of a “complete revision of history” rife with dishonesty.Sue Chrysanthou SC (C), the attorney for Charlotte MacInnes, is seen arriving at the Federal Court of Australia on Friday.

According to Ms. Chrysanthou, the first-time director tried to cast MacInnes as a troublemaker by lying to Ms. Ghost about getting a complaint. “One can hardly imagine a less sexy environment for some kind of harassment to occur – shaking and hives and tea provided by (the witness),” Ms. Chrysanthou told the court as Rebel Wilson’s attorney, Dauid Sibtain SC (R), arrived at the Federal Court of Australia on Friday.

“My client has been unable to eat, unable to sleep, has been distressed … (she) fears what Rebel Wilson is going to do to her next,” Ms. Chrysanthou stated. “No young woman dreams of being pulled into the spotlight by a celebrity and maligned.” According to her attorney, MacInnes has suffered terrible harm as a result of the social media posts and hasn’t worked since she starred in a stage production, a role that she had previously secured.

Wilson, however, testified that the young star doesn’t seem to have suffered any harm to her career or reputation, citing MacInnes’s six-figure record deal and starring part. “She’s changed her story, she’s flip-flopped and she’s been given huge benefits,” she added.

Wilson testified that she had seen numerous pictures of MacInnes travelling abroad and staying in upscale hotels, some of which had been forwarded to her by the “I hate Amanda Ghost fan club.”

“The A-lister stated in her declaration that “she was relatively unknown prior to The Deb and (I) understood she did not have the means to travel around the world in luxury.”

On Friday afternoon, Wilson’s attorney, Dauid Sibtain SC, will start his final arguments.
