‘I’m running out of time,’ says the narrator. Pen Farthing’s wife says she isn’t applauding the horrifying rule change.
Pen Farthing’s wife has spoken out about the agony she felt as time ran out to evacuate her husband and 170 animals out of Kabul due to a tragic rule change.
Kaisa Markhus, speaking to Good Morning Britain from Oslo on Monday, described the terror she felt as Mr Farthing and his animals were turned away from Kabul airport after US President Joe Biden changed the evacuation regulations. After Mr Farthing was turned away, she stated “time was running out,” and she began to fear the worst. Ms Markhus went on to say that she was finally able to sleep after learning that Mr Farthing had safely arrived in Oslo and was being held in isolation.
“He had a lot of work to do with all the animals,” she explained, “and he got some pretty fantastic help from military officials on the ground to help with loading.”
“It was a massive undertaking.
“It didn’t feel like the plane was going to land… There have been numerous setbacks.
“He tried to get in where he was already inside the airport, but he was turned around because the restrictions changed,” she continued.
Despite the excellent news of Pen’s safe evacuation, Markhus remarked, “she was not joyful.”
She stated that the Operation Ark operation is “still not over” and that “many” Nowzad personnel must be evacuated.
She did say, though, that she is “finally able to sleep” now that Pen is safe.
“Joe Biden, amend the rules!” said Mr Farthing. It was a horrible experience. It’s very heartbreaking.”
Despite his wife’s remarks, Mr Farthing continued by emphasizing that no military supported him in evacuating the airport.
