‘I was told to obey EU policy! After VDL’s showdown with Ireland over fishing, Britons riot.

Following Ursula von der Leyen’s dramatic battle with Ireland’s Taoiseach Micheal Martin over fisheries, Britons have reacted.

The Taoiseach argued that he stood up for Irish trawlermen, whose rights had been compromised in the post-Brexit environment. For years, Ireland was the most reliant EU nation on British waters, but under the provisions of the Brexit trade deal, its quota will be gradually decreased.

At a joint press conference in Dublin with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, Mr Martin said he brought up the subject of fishing during conversations with his guest, citing the “difficult position” of fishermen as an example.

The Northern Ireland Protocol, according to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, is the solution to the problems presented by Brexit.

Mrs von der Leyen restated her position on the Protocol, claiming that it is the “only option we have found with the UK after years of discussion.”

The Protocol, which tries to prevent a return to a hard border on the island of Ireland, is a “essential” aspect of keeping peace in the region, according to the EU chief.

Now, British citizens have reacted angrily to the Commission chief, with some suggesting that Ireland’s exit from the EU is simply a matter of time.

“We all know Ireland is on its way out of the EU,” one reader wrote on this website.

“It’s only a matter of time because they’ll never reform their tax.”

“Stuff the integrity of the single market, safeguard the integrity of the United Kingdom, and keep the peace on the island of Ireland,” someone else remarked.

“The Brussels machine is trying to turn ROI into a net contributor by pressuring it to comply with increasing Corporate Taxation demands,” a third stated.

“It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.”

While others discussed the plight of Irish fisherman.

“How difficult can the position of Irish fisherman be when they are simply returning to the same position they had before?” one said.

“Did they ever take into account the predicament of English fishermen?” No! Certainly not!

“Did they help the UK with its exit from the EU?

“No! So, why should we be concerned about them right now? ”

“He stated he brought up the matter of the Irish fishermen,” someone else added.

“Basically, she urged him to quiet up and follow EU policy.”

“It appears Mr Martin doesn’t get.” Brinkwire Summary News, remarked another website viewer.
