I promised my dying husband I would have his baby – three years after he died of cancer I have twin boys

A WIDOW has given birth to her husband’s twins — three years after he died.

Lucy Kelsall, 37, had two healthy boys via IVF using partner David’s frozen sperm.

David, 45 — who fought a long battle with throat cancer — chose to freeze his sperm before treatment made him infertile.

Lucy made a promise to make him a dad a few days before he died.

She said: “I told him I was still going to have his baby and he was so surprised and happy.

“He looked so proud and would have been an amazing father.”

Twins David and Samuel were born ten weeks ago after Lucy had a second round of IVF last year.

Lucy, of Bristol, said “It was so emotional at the birth. I still can’t get my head around the fact I have a bit of David with me forever.

“Little David has the same eyes as David and Samuel has his dad’s long legs and big feet.”

Lucy and mental health worker David got married in 2012. His cancer was diagnosed two years later and he died in 2017.

His mum, Wilma, 85, said: “I’m devastated about David but also so happy and pleased for Lucy.

“She’s given me the chance to be a grandma to David’s babies.

“We were so shocked when we found out it was twins because we’d be lucky just to have one and it was Lucy’s last chance.”
