Huge fire engulfs Swansea University campus as plumes of smoke billow across city

A HUGE fire engulfed Swansea University’s bay campus with smoke seen billowing across the city.

Dramatic photos show the flames tearing out of the three-storey building on Wednesday evening.

The university tweeted to say the fire had broken out in the engineering department and officials were co-operating with fire officers.

Firefighters were called to the campus at Fabian Way on Wednesday at 6.08pm.

It said the blaze was contained within a three-storey building, with the first floor, second floor and roof alight.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place once the incident has concluded.

Swansea’s £450m bay campus opened in 2015 near the border between Neath Port Talbot and Swansea council areas.

It is home to around 5,000 students and 1,000 staff.

We are aware of a fire in Engineering Central at the Bay Campus.

The fire service is in attendance.
