How to highlight your face using just face cream

Whether backstage at fashion week, on set for shoots or simply in your bathroom cabinet, Weleda Skin Food has been the ultimate beauty bag multitasker for over 90 years.

Forget iridescent powder and shimmering highlighter, this rich moisturiser helps to balance skin from head to toe leaving it supple, healthy and glowing.

Not only is it uber-nourishing for dry skin, but the cream also preps the skin for makeup and illuminates every complexion, all thanks to its combination of pure plant oils, protective waxes and therapeutic plant extracts.

Still not convinced? One of Instagram’s most recognisable makeup artists Katie-Jane Hughes – who frequently takes to social media to share her skin-prep and makeup application techniques – has revealed how she likes to apply the cream onto the high points of her face for a luminous highlight.

Famed for her glowing skin, Hughes reveals exactly how it’s done by bouncing a small amount of the face cream (you need only a tiny bit to create that sheen) with her hands onto the highest points of her face – forehead, cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, and chin.

‘When highlighting with a face cream, you definitely want to go with the shiniest, most dewiest face cream that you have,’ Hughes tells MailOnline.

‘Use it super sparingly, and first rub it between your fingers and tap it into the high points of the face, but don’t rub it in all the way because essentially you want to keep a lot of that texture, but you don’t want to see any of the streaks, you just want to see the shine.’

She added: ‘Sometimes you rub it in too much and you kind of remove 80 per cent off it. Use it almost like it’s a colourless highlighter before your makeup.’

The formula melts into the skin and imparts a beautiful dewy illuminating finish in an instant. It ticks all the radiance requirements. Plus, it also leaves the skin smooth and soft, allowing makeup to glide on seamlessly.

Even better? You can achieve this next-level illuminated look for £8.63 as Weleda Skin Food is currently 33 per cent off on Amazon.

And Amazon shoppers are with Hughes on this one. The multipurpose fragrance-free cream has amassed over 6,600 reviews with a near-perfect star rating of 4.7 out of 5. Reviewers describe it as ‘worth every penny’ and a ‘skin saviour’.

One wrote: ‘I use this cream on a night to rejuvenate my skin, you only need a small amount, and it feels a little greasy when you put it on, but that is not a problem as it is meant to be absorbed overnight and there is no residue on the bedding. My skin already looks much healthier and brighter.’

Another added: ‘This is a game-changer for my skin! I’ve been using it as a primer underneath my makeup, and it honestly is amazing!

‘My skin is quite dry, but this prevents the makeup cleaning to any dry patches. Would highly recommend!’

Others reviewers say that Weleda Skin Food has become a staple in their skincare routine to help soothe skin conditions such as eczema.

One shopper wrote: ‘I suffer from eczema, and I always have. I’ve been prescribed so many different creams, ones on prescription, steroid creams and nothing ever worked. Until this. I use it, especially on my face, it’s wonderful, and I buy it time and time again.’
