A total of 144 people took part in the study. The catechin-enriched green tea treatment significantly reduced average visceral fat area, body weight, and body fat, but similar benefits were not found in the control group.
The catechin group had a higher decrease in visceral fat area at week 12 than the control group.
The researchers concluded that drinking a catechin-rich green tea beverage for 12 weeks caused visceral fat loss in Chinese people with a high proportion of abdominal visceral fat.
