An irate passenger allegedly tried to enter the cockpit, raising a “security concern,” which led to the diversion of passengers on a United Airlines flight.
On Friday at 8:02 CDT, United Flight 2005 departed Chicago O’Hare International on its way to Minneapolis St. Paul International. However, due to a diversion, the flight was delayed by more than five hours.
An hour and a half after departure, the aircraft carrying 153 passengers was diverted to Dane County Regional Airport in Wisconsin, according to flight monitoring data.
When an unruly passenger tried to rush the cockpit, someone told the air traffic control tower that law enforcement agents were already on the aircraft and intervened, according to a radio recording from the airport that ABC affiliate WISN reviewed.
The witness remarked, “Don’t think they were able to cuff him, but they were able to get control of him after multiple attempts to try to breach the cockpit.”
“Law enforcement officers are seated on either side of him.”The airplane landed safely after resolving a “security concern with an unruly passenger,” an airline representative told WISN.
In a statement to WISN, the Milwaukee FBI office said, “FBI Milwaukee’s Madison Resident Agency and law enforcement partners responded immediately.”
