Kane played a crucial role in England’s run to the World Cup semi-final this summer.

The Three Lions skipper not only led Gareth Southgate’s men out on the pitch, but also bagged six goals in as many appearances out in Russia before a gut-wrenching last-four defeat at the hands of Croatia.

He picked up the Golden Boot award for his efforts, nevertheless; joining the likes of Gary Lineker, Eusebio and Thomas Muller in World Cup folklore.

And the Tottenham striker could be on course for another big individual honour at the end of the year.

Bookies Ladbrokes have installed Kane as the second favourite in their BBC Sports Personality of the Year Winner market at 9/4.

He currently sits behind Welsh cyclist Geraint Thomas – 2018 Tour De France champion – who leads the way at 6/4.

Cricket star Alastair Cook is also in the mix at odds of 12/1.

Cook – England’s all-time leading run scorer – bowed out from international cricket this afternoon.

In his final test innings against India, the 33-year-old notched 147 runs before being caught behind.

Ladbrokes feel he has an outside chance of clinching the award.

Other sport stars in the market are sprinter Dina Asher-Smith (10/1), Formula One superstar Lewis Hamilton (16/1), Unified World Heavyweight Boxing champion Anthony Joshua (20/1) and Swimmer Adam Peaty (25/1).
