Harriet Harman’s husband, Labour MP Jack Dromey, has died unexpectedly at the age of 73.

Harriet Harman’s husband, Labour MP Jack Dromey, has died suddenly at the age of 73.

On Friday morning, 73-year-old LABOUR MP Jack Dromey died in his Birmingham flat.

The Birmingham Erdington MP and shadow Home Office minister, who was married to Labour grandee Harriet Harman, died of natural causes, according to reports.

“Jack Dromey MP died suddenly this morning in his flat in Erdington, aged 73,” said a statement issued on behalf of his family.

“He had served Birmingham Erdington as a dedicated Member of Parliament since 2010.”

“He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be sorely missed.”

Mr Dromey was described as an MP who “lived his commitment to social justice every day” by Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer.

“Jack Dromey dedicated his life to standing up for working people through the Labour movement, becoming deputy general secretary of the UK’s largest trade union and then a Labour MP,” Sir Keir said.

“Jack lived his commitment to social justice every day, from supporting the Grunwick film processing laboratory strike, where he met Harriet, to being elected to represent Birmingham Erdington in 2010.”

“Jack was known for his tenacity in standing up for his constituents, and he was well-liked and respected throughout Parliament.”

“My thoughts, and the thoughts of the entire Labour Party, are with Harriet, their children, and everyone who knew and loved Jack.”

“We are all in disbelief that the life-force that was Jack Dromey has died, this is another sad day for the House and a bad start to the year,” said Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle.

“I’ve known Jack since the mid-1980s, when we were both chair of Chorley Council’s economic development committee and we were fighting to save the Royal Ordnance Factory in Chorley. He was a national officer for the Transport and General Workers’ Union, and I was chair of Chorley Council’s economic development committee.

“He was a great guy, down to earth, always upbeat, and always looking for ways to help people and save jobs.”

“At his core, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and our hearts break for Harriet and the rest of the family at this difficult time.”

“Our dad – Jack – died suddenly today,” Mr Dromey and Ms Harman’s son Joe tweeted.

We adored him.

Big man, may you rest in peace.”

On social media, MPs from all parties offered their condolences.

Perry is a member of the Labour Party who represents Birmingham.
