The world was taken by surprise when Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin announced their engagement in early July of this year — but a deep dive into Hailey’s Instagram activity reveals she may have known it was coming all along.
As far as the public knows, Justin, 24, and Hailey, 21, only started dating in May of this year (after a brief fling in 2016). So when Justin popped the question in July, it was headline news.
Yet this week, the popular Instagram account @commentsbycelebs unearthed a comment Hailey made on the social media platform back in June, which seemed to indicate she knew exactly what was about to happen.
On June 1, Justin’s longtime manager Scooter Braun, 37, posted a photo on Instagram of himself with his wife Yael Cohen at the gym.
Scooter’s company also represents Ariana Grande, Carly Rae Jepsen, Zac Brown Band, Kanye West, Tori Kelly, among others.
On Thursday, @commentsbycelebs posted a screenshot of the post, along with two comments by Hailey.
‘Couple goals,’ she wrote. ‘Scoot find me a husband.’
Now, fans are joking that the words seemed to work like magic — or at least, that Hailey is a pro at manifesting exactly what she wants by speaking it into existence.
‘Ask and you shall receive,’ @commentsbycelebs captioned the post, leading to other amused comments by fans.
‘Definition of speaking into existence,’ wrote one, while another added: ‘Hailey Baldwin is one the the strongest manifestors of 2018.’
Wow she knew. Her mind… it amazes me,’ chimed in another fan.
Several others wrote: ‘This aged nicely.’
There were also a few fans that hoped the same tactic would work for them, also commenting for Scooter to find them husbands.
Hailey may have known her proposal was coming at that point, about a month before Justin popped the question in the Bahamas.
The lovebirds first met back in 2009 when Hailey’s dad, Stephen Baldwin, introduced them. Two years later, she attended the premiere of Bieber’s Never Say Never, back when the Biebs was with Selena Gomez.
They remained friends and hung out over the years, with the media speculating they were seeing each other for a bit in 2014. But they didn’t publicly come forward with any sort of relationship until 2016, sharing kissing snaps on Instagram.
Their time together in 2016 was brief, and Justin was soon linked with Sofia Richie, followed by him getting back together with Selena Gomez.
Finally, in May of this year, Justin and Hailey were publicly linked again, and just two months later they got engaged.
