The second generation of Google’s Pixel Buds are on the way, and they’ll almost certainly be revealed with the Pixel 4a if the Bluetooth certification is anything to go by.
Popping up today, the Bluetooth certification for the Google Pixel Buds mentions two model numbers – G1007 and G100 – which could just be referring to the buds and their battery case, rather than some mysterious second variant to be unveiled. The Bluetooth hardware is made by Bestechnic as opposed to using a Qualcomm chip, and will support Bluetooth 5.0.
There’s also a short description of the buds, although it’s hardly giving anything away. “Google Pixel buds deliver rich audio, clear calls, and hands‑free help from the Google Assistant. They are designed for your comfort, based on scans of thousands of ears. The customised, secure fit while the ambient vent keeps you open to the world around you.” Very telling…
The fact that Google is getting all of its paperwork in order now, so to speak, is that it makes it pretty likely that they’ll be good to go by the Google I/O event set for May, when the Pixel 4a will be revealed. We weren’t a fan of Google’s first attempt at sort-of wireless earbuds, so let’s see how the second crack at it holds up.
