Get a better night’s sleep for less with top tips for bargain bedroom savings

GETTING 40 winks can be a costly business.

I was shocked to see that Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle spent a staggering £7,500 on his mattresses and bedding.

It’s enough to lose sleep over, if you ask me.

Check out these bargain bedroom savings instead . . .

FRAME IT: Metal bed frames are on trend right now and can add some real character to a room.

But instead of paying £134 for the Keswick cream frame at, swap it for the similar Leirvik white frame from Ikea for £99.

If you are after something a little more solid, try Ikea’s Malm white bed frame for £129 with room for underbed storage. B&M has a children’s single Malmo frame for just £36.

SAVING: £35 on the white frame

MATTRESS MATTERS: The Watson traditional spring mattress has great reviews and is currently on sale for £139, down from £279 at

If there is nothing wrong with your mattress but you just need a little extra comfort, try a topper.

I like the Silentnight deep sleep mattress topper — it is on sale for £22.89, down from £30.99 at Amazon.

SAVING: £140 on the mattress

SHEET CRED: I like the yellow patterned double duvet set from Primark for £20, but it is actually cheaper to get the similar grey ochre tribal print set from Wilko for £14.

Grab a matching ochre fitted sheet for £4.99 from The Range.

Top tip: If you are finding it hard to sleep in the hot weather, dampen your sheets with a spray bottle or pop them in a plastic bag in the freezer for a few hours. It really works.

SAVING: £6 on the duvet set

DUVET DEALS: With students off to uni, there are great deals to be had — and you can snap one up, too.

Head to John Lewis for the 10.5 tog House by John Lewis duvet for £15. Or you could check out the duvet and pillow set at Argos for £14.

You will save yourself a pound and gain two pillows.
