Friends the reunion: Will there be a Friends reunion?

FRIENDS is still probably the most-watched US sitcom in the world, more than 20 years after it first aired. There are rumours the Friends cast members will be returning for a special episode – are they reuniting?

There are very few people who have not watched an episode of Friends on Netflix. The names Ross Gellar and Chandler Bing are familiar to everyone. Fans of Friends will be excited to hear they could be joining up for a special reason.

Will the Friends cast get back together?

The TV series has just celebrated the 25th anniversary of its initial launch.

The cast of the iconic comedy show is reportedly expected to reunite for an unscripted special.

According to Deadline, cast members will be helping to launch the imminent streaming platform HBO Max.

The Friends series is featuring as one of the main shows on the platform.

There have been many teasers for a reunion and even a spin-off series before, but all have been shot down.

But Deadline has reported after long negotiations Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), Monica (Courtney Cox), Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow), Ross (David Schwimmer), Joey (Matt LeBlanc) and Chandler (Matthew Perry) have come to an agreement with Warner Bros.

The cast members have supposedly agreed to an estimated £3 million ($4 million) payout each to star in an hour-long special.

Chandler actor Matthew Perry posted a mysterious Tweet this week saying: “Big news coming…”

The show has been hugely popular on Netflix and it is hoped the box set will perform well on the new platform.

A special episode will do wonders in attracting new and old fans back to the series.

There is still plenty of interest in the cast members as Jennifer Aniston recently ‘broke the internet’ after posting a selfie with her co-stars on Instagram.

Last year the possibility of a reboot or scripted reunion was turned down at a Friends 25th anniversary panel event.

The show’s creator Marta Kauffman said at the time: “We will not be doing a reunion show, we will not be doing a reboot.

“The show was about that time in life when friends are your family.”

Fans are clinging on to the hope there will be an unscripted HBO episode.

After Matthew Perry’s Tweet fans took to Twitter to express their excitement.

One user replied: “I am looking forward to a Friends reunion, I adore Matthew Perry’s wonderful sense of humour.

“I would love to see the whole gang and their families.”

Perry’s Twitter was bombarded with Friends GIFs and references from fans.

Another said: “Whatever this is we are proud and happy for you, you have no idea how much the world loves you.”
