After landing his first boot contract in 1996, he has been working with Adidas for almost thirty years.

For their new £50 million FIFA World Cup commercial in 2026, the sports brand has now produced an AI-generated image of David Beckham.

Backyard Legends, a five-minute video featuring a star-studded cast, was posted to YouTube on Thursday.

It includes many AI versions of 51-year-old David from the 1990s and early 2000s with some of his most recognisable hairstyles, such as the mohawk.

According to The Sun, Beckham was paid a “multi-million pound fee” to participate in the commercial.David’s representative has been contacted by Daily Mail for comment.

In advance of the World Cup, which is scheduled to start on June 11, the movie advertisement was released.

For their star-studded £50 million World Cup commercial, Adidas produced an AI-generated image of David Beckham.

The film’s narrator, Hollywood actor Timothee Chalamet, plays an enthusiastic amateur manager.

The story revolves around a street football game between a group of young talent known as “The Invincibles” and well-known figures from around the world.

Beckham, who ultimately gets the football caught in a tree, is accompanied by AI versions of Zinedine Zidane and Alessandro del Piero.

The remainder of the film-style commercial features a number of elite soccer players, such as Florian Wirtz (Liverpool), Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), Ousmane Dembele (Paris Saint-Germain), Lamine Yamal (Barcelona), and Trinity Rodman (Washington Spirit).

The advertisement also features Bad Bunny and Lionel Messi.

Regarding his role in the cinematic short film, Timothee remarked, “I used to dream of playing with these guys – you know, I was playing at Pier 40 as a kid, thinking about Beckham’s free kicks, Del Piero’s goals, and Zidane’s volleys – doing my own versions.””I’m a traditionalist, I don’t know football, I know football, and I can’t wait for this summer’s World Cup,” she said. “I love this game, so it’s unbelievable to be doing this with Adidas, captured with the best to ever do it.”

Is it innovative or disrespectful to sports legends’ legacies to use AI to replicate them for advertisements?
