Following the revelation that her character is a Republican, Sydney Sweeney reignites the “MAGA Barbie” controversy, with Euphoria fans accusing her of “just playing herself”

Sydney Sweeney’s “MAGA Barbie” moniker has gained further traction once it was discovered that Cassie Howard, her Euphoria character, is a Republican.

When it was revealed last year that Sydney is a registered Republican, the 28-year-old actress became a political lightning rod. President Trump even praised the actress.

When she starred in an American Eagle denim campaign with the slogan “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Genes,” left-wing protesters voiced their disapproval, accusing the advertisement of supporting far-right ideologies and pro-eugenics.

Despite asserting that she is “not a political person,” the actress was consequently referred to as a “MAGA Barbie.”

Sydney gave the moniker further gasoline on Monday when her Euphoria character Cassie seemed to reveal her political affiliation.

Sydney Sweeney’s “MAGA Barbie” issue has rekindled as it was discovered that Cassie Howard (pictured), her Euphoria character, is a republican in new scenes.

When she appeared in an American Eagle commercial last year with the slogan “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Genes,” left-wing protesters protested, saying it promoted far-right politics.

This Little Piggy, the fifth episode of the popular HBO series, featured Cassie sucking her toes for her OnlyFans subscribers.

Cassie starts making appearances on different podcasts to discuss guys as her OnlyFans career gains popularity.

“I just feel like American men have been treated like second-class citizens,” she says.” “Why is it that women hate men these days?” a podcast host asks her.

“Well, in the past, men used to be hunters, gatherers, and protectors, but now they’re being forced to walk around on their tiptoes. I mean, it’s not natural,” Cassie goes on. Men ought to have freedom. They ought to have the freedom to express their opinions and wishes.

“Oh, you think they’re being too restricted by society?” asks one host.

In response, Cassie says, “Yes!” For example, a man today might as well be yelling the N-word if he said he wanted a woman who could cook or clean.

“Well, you sound like a Democrat,” remarks another host off-camera to Cassie.

“I’m not r*tarded,” she laughs in response.

After the scenes aired, followers on X pointed out that Sydney had used a full method acting style because the actress had previously made ambiguous remarks regarding the political party.

“Sydney Sweeney officially came out as MAGA ON Euphoria tonight,” they wrote.

“Sydney Sweeney was either using an Emmy-worthy method acting lengthy con for the previous two years, or they created this to adapt to her.

“What if Sydney Sweeney was using a conservative grift to hint at Cassie’s arc in the upcoming season while pretending to be MAGA all along?”

“On that show, Sydney Sweeney is just playing herself.”

“I just know Sydney Sweeney and her PR died when all that maga stuff about her blew up after the jeans ad, knowing full well the script she had already filmed for Cassie lmao.”

“Sydney Sweeney went too far with method acting.”

Then, in 2025, it was revealed that Sydney was a registered Republican, and President Trump himself praised her.

Fans pointed out on X that Sydney had adopted a full method acting technique after the Euhporia scenes aired.

The Euphoria actress has not disclosed her vote preferences till 2025, but since 2022, admirers have seen hints regarding her political inclinations.

Following the strong internet debate surrounding the jeans promotion, references to her “conservative” relatives, her mother’s “make 60 great again” birthday celebration, and her carrying a gun in an old video at a shooting range are all included.

However, Sydney retaliated against being labelled as a “MAGA Barbie” in January of this year.

I have never been here to discuss politics. She told Cosmopolitan magazine, “I’ve always been here to make art, so this is just not a conversation I want to be at the forefront of.”

“I haven’t figured it out,” she said when asked why she wouldn’t correct the record if she thought she was being misrepresented.

“I’m not a bigot.” They will remark something like, “You’re just saying that to look better,” if I say, “That’s not true.”

“Winning is not possible.” There is never any success.

“I just have to continue being who I am, because I know who I am,” she insisted. I am unable to win everyone’s affection. I am aware of my values.

In another instance, Sydney’s “ridiculous” Euphoria role provoked criticism from OnlyFans creators.

In order to support her opulent lifestyle, the actress’s character, Cassie, opens an account on the adult platform in the new season of the HBO series.

In an attempt to succeed online, the show depicts her transition into progressively dangerous and outrageous behaviours.

Sydney’s character has pushed the envelope, appearing in some of the most X-rated scenes in her career to yet, masquerading as a dog and dressing like a baby with bunches.

So much so that viewers couldn’t help but wonder how the actress herself consented to record such material; several referred to it as a “humiliation ritual.”

Real-life OnlyFans creators have now taken aim at the show as well, believing that the portrayal has made them the target of ridicule because of their profession.

Sydney’s “ridiculous” Euphoria role also provoked criticism from OnlyFans creators.

In order to support her opulent lifestyle, the actress’s character, Cassie Howard, opens an account on the adult platform in the upcoming season of the HBO series.

For her OF account, Sweeney was photographed posing for a number of daring images, such as a graphic snap with ice cream flowing down her bare cleavage and her costumed as a baby, following the previous episode in which she was dressed as a dog.

Sydney Leathers, an OnlyFans creator since 2017, told Variety, “There’s just a lot that’s ridiculous and cartoonish about it. There’s so much that they have her doing that is not even on OnlyFans, and that alone is infuriating: the age-play stuff where she’s dressed as a baby in a nappy, for example.”

In fact, OnlyFans has a stringent policy that forbids “illegal activity, including actual, claimed, or role-played: exploitation, abuse, or harm of individuals under the age of 18; incest; bestiality; necrophilia; rape or sexual assault; and any content or conduct that promotes terrorism.”

Maitland Ward, a former comedy actor and one of the site’s top creators, countered that these portrayals perpetuate the harmful and untrue perception that sex work is intrinsically connected to abuse or human trafficking.

She stated to the newspaper:Given the current context, they dressed her as a baby in order to create obscene The stuff on OnlyFans was quite disturbing and perpetuates the myth that sex workers are immoral and will do anything for money.

According to Maitland, the show made a serious problem seem like a cheap comedy.

“I think it’s pretty cool that they’re bringing OnlyFans into the entertainment world, but the way they’re doing it is over-dramatized,” adult creator Sophie Rain told TMZ, adding that she was equally shocked by the scenes as other viewers. “We shouldn’t be portraying OnlyFans that way… It is quite deceptive.

“I think the media always needs something really “out there” to catch people’s attention,” OnlyFans stars Emily Mai and Taila Maddison told Daily Mail. They feel that Sweeney’s portrayal as a “desperate” adult star in the series has missed the mark on many aspects in their profession. They require high views and ratings. Therefore, instead of presenting the true nature of sex work, they have discovered highly contentious niches,” Emily stated.

“It is a very small part of it,” she continued, adding that shows like Euphoria aggressively emphasise the sensationalised features of the adult sector in order to draw viewers. They’ve given the impression that’s all we do. similar to Sydney’s puppy-like barking. She is portrayed as a simple-minded female who merely complies with the requests of the boys.”Of course she is going to dress up like a sexy little puppy, bark, and be submissive,” Emily continued.

In real life, she continued, OnlyFans stars only provide their followers with content they feel comfortable sharing and are never required to comply with odd requests.

“Many real-life content producers set their own limitations when deciding which niches, fetishes, and kinks to pursue. There is no autonomy on the TV program, she claimed. “Many of us will say no to certain things because we are not comfortable with it or because it is not something we enjoy doing.” They’re dressing us like infants.

“A lot of people are uncomfortable with a woman expressing her sexuality, demanding payment,” Emily continued, adding that one TV myth she wanted to dispel was the typical portrayal of OnlyFans performers as “desperate.” She insisted that many actually found the work empowering. Many will visit PornHub, but they won’t compensate women for their time! She explained, “It’s the stigma of a woman owning her own body and getting paid for her time.”

Taila Maddison, another OnlyFans star, stated that although she didn’t really object to Sweeney’s work on Euphoria, she thought its emphasis on well-known kinks was hilariously absurd. “I’m not upset about it,” she added. “I can’t believe they are portraying it as just kinks It’s not what we do!” is a complaint I’ve heard from other celebrities. “It’s not JUST what we do, but it is one of our biggest money-makers!” exclaimed Taila.

“Anytime an OnlyFans star is portrayed, it is not accurate,” said top OnlyFans star Annie Knight, adding that although she enjoyed seeing her industry portrayed on TV, what she truly wanted was a more accurate portrayal. To make us realistic, much more effort needs to be done. She remarked, “I know they want to add drama, but you can do that without making us look stupid or like we despise the industry.”

Real-life OnlyFans founders have now taken aim at the show as well, claiming that the portrayal has made them the target of ridicule because of their profession (shown OnlyFans model Sophie Rain).

After their remarks, spectators shared their opinions on social media.

After their remarks, spectators shared their opinions on social media.

“OnlyFans is the world’s largest digital pimp,” they wrote. The sex trade has been effectively rebranded as “content creation” in order to profit from billions of dollars.

“Warning: seasons one and two also don’t accurately depict high school.”

“A lot of it is real (the panties, *MOST of the content, the hustle, the admin), but some parts are wildly inaccurate (the speed and ease of making thousands of subs).”

“They understand that television isn’t real life, don’t they?”

There are many absurd and comical aspects that are unique to enthusiasts. It makes no difference if it’s permitted in real life.

The literature can be criticised without demeaning actual sex workers. Fiction is fiction, but it’s important listening to if those who work in that field claim that the portrayal is detrimental and overblown.

“Is the satire show going too close to the mark?”

Sydney’s character was defended by show creator Sam Levinson, who told The Hollywood Reporter: “[Cassie] has her dog house and her little dog ears and the nose, and that has its own humour, but what makes the scene is the fact that her housekeeper is the one filming it.” “What we wanted to always find is the other layer of absurdity that we’re able to tie into it so that we’re not too inside of her fantasy or illusion – the gag is to jump out, to break the wall.”

Sydney told Entertainment Tonight, “I mean, Cassie’s a crazy character,” regarding her character’s OnlyFans job during the third season premiere.

The actress remarked, “She makes a lot of very wild and interesting choices, and she will do anything and at all costs to be famous this season.”

Sydney “becomes brilliant” on stage “if you push a little bit,” according to Sam.

He stated, “What’s interesting is if you push it a little bit, she becomes brilliant,” when speaking at The Hollywood Reporter’s Directors in Focus event.

She can achieve these levels that are both incredibly humorous and emotionally honest with just a few more takes. Despite the chaos and insanity all around her, she is able to stabilise the scene.

In 2022, Sydney told The Independent that Sam welcomed criticism and that she never felt pressured to do nude sequences. “There are moments where Cassie was supposed to be shirtless, and I would tell Sam, ‘I don’t really think that’s necessary here,” she said. “Okay, we don’t need it,” he said.

Sydney revealed to Variety in 2023 that she had requested Sam to intensify Cassie’s mania, saying, “Give me more.” I’ll show you what I own. This girl has so much to offer.

“We live in a very sexualised world,” the director said at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, defending the graphic nature of his work. Pornography has a significant psychological impact on young people.

On Sundays, Euphoria airs on HBO at 9 p.m. (ET/PT). The show streams on HBO Max and Sky Go/NOW and airs on Sky Atlantic on Mondays at 2 a.m. and 9 p.m. in the UK.
