Female cop, 23, convicted of revenge porn after finding naked pictures on her boyfriend’s phone

A policewoman has been convicted of distributing ‘revenge porn’ of another female police officer.

Mary-Ellen Pascoe appeared in Darwin Local Court on Thursday over the June 2019 incident.

The 23-year-old Northern Territory Police officer found intimate photos on her then boyfriend’s phone of another female officer, the court heard.

Crown Prosecutor Tami Grealy said one of the photos was of the woman posing naked in front of a mirror, according to the NT News.

Pascoe sent the images to her then boyfriend, the female officer and the woman’s husband.

She also sent text messages to the woman where she labelled her a ‘sl*t’, ‘a filthy wh**e’, and the ‘kind of person who steals the earth’s oxygen’.

Pascoe pleaded guilty to distributing intimate images and using a carriage service to harass.

Her defence lawyer said his client’s aim was not to humiliate her victim and she did not put any of the photos online.

He said Pascoe had a history of volunteering with children and had been praised for reviving an unconscious prisoner.

She had only been a police officer for two years before the incident.

Ms Grealy said it was important to send a message to other would-be offenders.

‘In my submission this is exactly the kind of revenge conduct that the legislation is designed to prohibit.’ Ms Grealy said.

‘Quite apart from that, the defendant is a police officer who is entrusted to uphold the law.’

Judge Tanya Fong Lim said Pascoe ‘no doubt [wasn’t] thinking straight… but not convicting her would send the wrong message’.

Pascoe was sentenced to a 12-month good behaviour bond.

She is also facing a separate internal disciplinary hearing within the NT Police.
