A father is accused of raping his three young stepdaughters over a five year period.
The 31-year-old Townsville man was arrested on Tuesday and charged with 14 counts of rape and eight indecent treatment of a child offences.
Police allege he started abusing his youngest stepdaughter when she was just six-years-old before he started with the other two girls, the Cairns Post reported.
The victims also allege their stepfather raped them in both Cairns and Townsville.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Miles, of the Townsville Child Protection and Investigation Unit, said the alleged victims had come forward to report the crime.
‘Unfortunately, like all of these matters it represents the ultimate breach of trust from a parental figure, with the victims being subject to lifelong impacts of abuse,’ he said.
Officers rushed to arrest the man given the direct relationship between him and his alleged victims who are now aged 11, 14 and 17-years-old.
The man was due to appear before the Townsville Magistrates Court on Thursday morning.
Detectives are also investigating other alleged offences.
