ESSEX is a hotspot for car thefts, a study found.
Three areas historically in the county make the top ten for stolen motors.
Ilford was the worst with 20.3 car thefts per 1,000 of the population.
Romford was second with 19.1 thefts per 1,000.
Despite now being in East London, both towns were once part of Essex.
And Southend-on-Sea was tenth, with 12 car thefts per 1,000 people.
The data came from 5.8million car insurance quotes through the MoneySuperMarket website in the past year.
Dave Merrick, from the firm, said: “Car insurance providers will take your location into account which may impact the cost of your premiums.”
Scotland’s Orkney isles, Inverness and Perth saw the lowest thefts.
