The winner of the Miss London Beauty Pageant was crowned this weekend while wearing a protective visor.
Jessica Kang, 25, who works in HR for Ealing Council beamed as she place top in the ceremony at the Taj 51 Buckingham Gate hotel in central London yesterday.
Most of the pageant was conducted virtually with the contestants submitting catwalk and talent videos from home.
Jessica, who works part time as a model, officially won the competition in spring but had her crowning ceremony yesterday following the easing of lockdown restrictions.
She will now compete for the title of Miss England, later this year.
‘It was so nice to meet the other contestants and have my crowning ceremony at the luxurious Taj 51 hotel- what an amazing experience! I am so grateful and relieved for the lockdown release, hopefully we are slowly adjusting back to “normal life” even if it is with face masks! I hope we can remain cautious and safe,’ she said at the ceremony.
Writing on her Instagram after winning the title in May, Jessica wrote: ‘I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to represent the capital city in the Miss England finals!
‘So excited for this new adventure of Miss London 2020 – My reign has just begun.
‘This city has truly made me the person I am today and I couldn’t be any happier representing it. It’s all really starting to feel real now with the crown.
‘Such a huge achievement in my first ever pageant.’
Joining Jessica were runners up, Constance Iloghalu, Lizzy Willis, Keflyn Sachar, from Lewisham, Rebecca Sinnarajah from Greenford, Rysa Saujani from Newbury and Natasha Chittoo from north London, who all qualified for the Miss England finals too.
Also present was Sissy Fury, cousin of boxer Tyson, who placed as second runner up and bagged the top model prize.
Organisers will be announcing the new Miss England Final date during the first week of September after the original final was postponed due the pandemic.
The 70th Miss World final has also been moved to 2021.
Speaking about her win, Jessica added: ‘I have lost a lot of weight. I weighed over 13 stone two years back and ever since I met my partner Roan and he has changed my life.
‘He inspired me so much to lose weight as he is a newly qualified personal trainer now and has always been into fitness. He motivated me so much, and I wanted to see a change in myself.
‘So I put the hard work in at the gym and it all paid off, ever since, I’m addicted to fitness and bettering my health. When the gym was open I would go five times a week after work.
‘My job is a desk job and I would say this has contributed to my weight gain as it’s not a very physically active job. During lockdown I am still working out but only sometimes, mainly I am focusing on my diet and eating the correct amount, my macros have dropped as the intensity of my workouts aren’t that great as being in the gym. So whatever I eat depends on my workouts ideally.
‘I started off my career with an apprenticeship in business admin at Ealing council HR department.
‘This has been my first ever job. I did three years of the course and then my manager made me permanent on the team.
‘I enjoy my role so much as there is so much to learn and progress and my relationship with my colleagues is brilliant, we are like a family’
