During the backlash over Harry and Meghan, Queen Elizabeth II ‘put the monarchy first.’
Following escalating tensions between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, QUEEN ELIZABETH II “put the monarchy first,” according to a royal analyst.
Last year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex resigned as senior members of the Royal Family, shocking the world. The couple moved to California and are no longer permitted to use their titles of Royal Highness.
According to royal analyst Matthew Dennison, when it came to Harry and Meghan, the Queen stood behind the monarchy.
Mr Dennison claimed in his latest book, The Queen, that she was “sad and dismayed” when she decided to stop permitting the Sussexes to use the HRH titles.
“Elizabeth’s formal statement emphasized loving finality: ‘It is my entire family’s desire that today’s agreement permits them to begin constructing a happy and peaceful new life,” he said.
“It was a decisive but bleak start to a new decade, an attempt to retake authority in the interests of damage reduction.
“Elizabeth had never been a sentimental woman; she had acted in the only way she understood,” the Duke and Duchess said in a bombshell statement released in January last year. They wanted to split their lives between North America and the UK, keep their full titles and patronages, and continue to serve the Crown while also pursuing for-profit projects to become independent from the Sovereir.
Following talks among the royals, their plans were thwarted, and Meghan and Harry eventually stepped aside, refusing to use their HRH styles, participate in royal engagements, or maintain their royal and military ties.
Mr Dennison noted, however, that the Queen safeguarded the monarchy by removing their HRH titles because it is not a “part-time calling.”
“As throughout a life in which she had consistently honoured her father’s belief that ‘the highest of distinctions is the service of others,’ she had placed the monarchy first, safeguarding its mission of service and duty that could never, she was certain, be a part-time calling,” the author continued.
Meghan made her debut as a children’s book author last year with the short story The Bench.
Her name appeared on the book’s cover with her Duchess title, prompting accusations from critics that she was attempting to profit from her royal status. “Brinkwire News in Condensed Form.”
