Dua Lipa has filed a £11 million lawsuit against Samsung, alleging that the tech giant used her picture to market its televisions without her consent.

The 30-year-old British-Albanian music artist claimed that the electronics company had secretly placed her likeness on cardboard TV boxes as part of a “mass marketing campaign.”

According to the court document, the One Kiss singer had “no say, control, or input whatsoever” over the campaign’s usage of her picture, which is thought to have appeared on boxes worldwide.

“Ms. Lipa did not permit and would not have permitted this use,” the complaint continues.

According to court records, the Grammy winner is requesting damages of $15 million (£11 million).

The diva asserts that she is the owner of the copyright to the image, which was taken backstage during her 2024 concert at the Austin City Limits Festival.

According to Ms. Lipa, she didn’t realise the picture was being exploited for profit until the goods were already available for purchase.

The company’s purported reaction to her demand that the image be taken down was also attacked by her legal team, who said Samsung was “dismissive and callous” and would not stop using the image.

Dua Lipa has filed a £11 million lawsuit against Samsung, alleging that the tech giant used her picture to market its televisions without her consent.

On March 15 in Hollywood, California, Ms. Lipa attends the 34th Annual Academy Awards Viewing Party hosted by the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Social media posts from consumers who were allegedly convinced to purchase the TVs due to the apparent endorsement are also included in the complaint. “I wasn’t even planning on buying a TV but I saw the box so I decided to get it,” someone said on X.

“I’d get that TV just because Dua Lipa is on it,” remarked another. That is my level of obsession. That’s my level of affection for her. “Just put a picture of Dua Lipa on it,” a third person said.

Her attorneys contend that the remarks demonstrate how Samsung profited from certain fans thinking the singer supported the product.

The artist has meticulously developed a “premium brand” and is “highly selective” when it comes to sponsorships and collaborations, according to the lawsuit.

The singer has secured rich fashion and beauty commercials in addition to her music career, making her one of pop’s most prominent commercial stars in recent years.

She frequently attends prestigious fashion events and is renowned for meticulously managing her public persona and brand alliances.

Her attorneys contend that last year’s usage of her likeness implied an official collaboration with the business.

California, which has a reputation for providing celebrities with robust legal safeguards, is where Ms. Lipa brought the lawsuit.

She charges Samsung with violating California publicity laws, trademark infringement, and copyright infringement.

The star’s life has continued as usual despite the legal upheaval. She made an unexpected entrance on Thursday night at London’s O2 Arena during Tame Impala’s main performance.

She recently took a safari vacation in South Africa and a luxurious getaway in Copenhagen with her fiancé, actor Callum Turner.

After being sighted in Palermo last summer, where they were supposedly looking at different event locations together, the couple is reportedly planning a low-key wedding later this year. Rumour has it that they may get married in Italy.

Samsung has been asked for comment by The Daily Mail.
