Driver dies after crashing car into utility pole in north Phoenix; traffic restricted

A man is dead after crashing a car into a utility pole in north Phoenix early Monday morning. 

According to Phoenix police Sgt. Vince Lewis, a vehicle traveling near 39th Avenue and Yorkshire Drive crossed into the oncoming lane and hit a pole at about 1:30 a.m. 

The driver, whose name and age were not immediately released, was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead, Lewis said. 

The roadway remained closed for the Monday morning commute.
