Donald Trump lashes out at another CNN reporter over ‘stupid’ question

US President Donald Trump has lashed out at another CNN journalist, accusing her of asking him a “stupid” question and saying she asks “a lot of stupid questions”.

Just days after verbally attacking CNN’s Chief White House Correspondent Jim Acosta – labelling him a “rude, terrible person” and revoking his White House credentials – Mr Trump has hit out at another CNN reporter.

Abby Phillip asked the current US President if he wanted acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker to “rein in” special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating Russian interference into the 2016 federal elections and any related criminal activity.

“What a stupid question that is,” said Mr Trump.

“What a stupid question. But I watch you a lot. You ask a lot of stupid questions,” he added, pointing his finger at Ms Phillip, before walking off.

Ms Philip later said that the question was hugely important, considering Mr Whitaker is a well-known critic of Mr Mueller’s investigation.

Mr Trump put Mr Whitaker in the role of acting Attorney General – despite his apparent political bias – after asking for Jeff Sessions to resign.

Mr Sessions had recused himself from Mr Mueller’s investigation over a potential conflict of interest, which Mr Trump has repeatedly complained about both publicly and privately. Mr Sessions left the role as the Democrats won the US House of Representatives in the country’s 2018 mid-term elections, which will allow them to launch subpoena-powered investigations into Mr Trump’s finances, Russian interference, administration ethics scandals and more.

Mr Trump’s lashing out at Ms Phillip happened as he was leaving the White House for an international gathering in Paris to commemorate World War I.

The former Celebrity Apprentice host also called Urban Radio Networks’ April Ryan “very nasty” and “a loser”, and suggested more reporters could lose their credentials.

“When you’re in the White House, this is a very sacred place to me. It’s a very special place. You have to treat the White House with respect. You have to treat the presidency with respect,” Mr Trump said.
