Brian danced to Westlife’s cover of Barry Manilow’s Mandy when he took to the ice
BRIAN McFadden returned to Dancing on Ice and performed a daring lift tonight despite being in agony with a dislocated shoulder.
The former Westlife singer relived his time in the chart-topping band as he danced to their cover of Barry Manilow’s classic, Mandy.
Speaking after his show-stopping routine, Brian reassured Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield that his shoulder was “still there.”
He joked: “With my shoulder going out, it’s been tough. It’s probably in a different position to what it was at the beginning of the routine but it’s still there.”
The 38-year-old then threw shade at his former bandmates when judge Chris Dean asked if it was his vocals on the track and Brian quipped: “The good bits!”
Brian received criticism for his facial expressions not being animated throughout the performance while his partner Alex Murphy was critiqued on her choreography that left the judges wanting more.
Despite this he scored a 5.5 from all of the judges except show villain Jason Gardiner who dished out a measly 3.5 score.
Before they took to the ice rink, viewers saw Brian embrace his new venture after being partnered up with pro dancer Alex Murphy.
But Brian’s intense touring schedule put a spanner in the works, causing Alex to travel across the globe so Brian could rehearse for Dancing on Ice between tour dates.
His future on the show was in jeopardy as he ranted about his “stupid shoulder” after inuuring himself practising a lift.
He described the ordeal as “so annoying, so frustrating” as he awaited the physio’s final decision on if he can perform the routine he’s spent weeks rehearsing.
Speaking last night, 38-year-old Brian explained: “This is really frustrating for me because for weeks I’ve been nervous about getting here and nervous about just doing my first dress rehearsal in the studio.
“I did it and I loved it and I was so happy, so relaxed, ready to go and this stupid shoulder has literally put me right back to the start again.
“But now I’m nervous and I don’t know what’s gonna happen… just to have been practicing lifts and pop out a shoulder is ridiculous.”
But the singer has revealed the show must go on – even if he has to make some last minute changes to the routine.
Brian signed up for Dancing On Ice while the remaining members of Westlife – Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, Shane Filan and Nicky Byrne go on tour.
They have been quizzed on why Brian isn’t taking part in their current reunion.
The foursome discussed their former bandmate as they promoted their first single in nearly seven years ahead of their UK and Ireland tour in May.
