Australian actor Dan Wyllie has been charged with assaulting his wife and the mother of his child, film director Shannon Murphy, in an alleged domestic violence incident.
The popular Logie winner, 50, who starred in Muriel’s Wedding and Animal Kingdom, was arrested at Waverley Police Station on Saturday following an incident involving his wife of six years in March.
NSW Police also took out a provisional Apprehended Violence Order against Wyllie, ordering him not to assault, threaten, stalk or harass his wife, or destroy or damage any of her property.
‘Following an investigation by officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command into an alleged domestic-related assault at a Woollahra home in March 2020, a 50-year-old man was arrested at Waverley Police Station today,’ a NSW Police spokesperson said in a statement.
Wyllie was released on bail and will appear in court on Wednesday, August 12.
The pair married in Thailand in 2014 after six years of dating. Their private wedding ceremony was attended by the likes of Toni Collette.
Wyllie referred to Murphy as his ‘best friend’ in a rare personal interview in 2012, two years before they married.
Murphy is an Australian film director, who has directed for the Sydney Theatre Company.
She is also a shareholder in production company The Dollhouse Pictures, which counts Australian actress Rose Byrne and film director Gracie Otto as shareholders.
She gave birth to the couple’s daughter in 2015.
Wyllie has appeared in Muriel’s Wedding, Animal Kingdom and The Water Diviner, as well as TV shows including Puberty Blues, Underbelly, Love My Way and Rake.
He won a Silver Logie in 2004 for his role in Foxtel’s Love My Way.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Dan Wyllie’s management for comment.
