Dad gobsmacked to find record breaking eight-inch chip on his dinner plate

DAD Paul Cooper was gobsmacked to find Britain’s lengthiest chip stretched out on his plate — at 8in long.

The 57-year-old shop fitter got his tape measure out before scoffing the oven-baked behemoth — though it took him a while.

It mashes the previous record chip length of 7.1in revealed in The Sun earlier this summer.

Paul was having fish with some McCain Oven Chips prepared by his wife when he clocked the colossal straight-cut carb.

He said: “She didn’t even notice it when she was cooking, but I was so shocked when I saw it. It tasted like a regular chip, but took longer to eat. It was more than a mouthful.”

The dad of two picked up the £2 bag from his local shop in Gloucester.

He joked: “It wasn’t any heavier than usual, despite the extra-long chip. My kids found it hilarious and said it must be the biggest chip in the world.”

In July we told how Archie Chisnall, 15, from St Helens, Merseyside, found a then-record 7.1in chip.

McCain reckon a ten-incher could soon emerge from one lucky customer’s bag.

A spokeswoman said: “Paul has found our biggest one yet! We think it’s only a matter of time before we hit double figures!”
