Covid vaccination passports for expats may be about to expire.

Covid vaccination passports for expats may be about to expire.

THE VALIDITY DATES OF VACCINE CERTIFICATES ARE BEING HARMONIZED BY THE EU. But when are they going to expire? For all nations, the validity of the EU COVID-19 vaccine certificate is set to be the same.

“The European Commission is working with the utmost urgency to strengthen the coordination of free movement,” said Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides.

“This includes the validity period and the use of boosters in the immunization campaign.”

“We are adamant about turning the tide,” she added.

Kyriakides said she totally agrees with the “urgency” because of the rising number of Covid cases across the globe.

The Covid certificate is currently being discussed with EU member states, according to Kyriakides.

This week, the EU is expected to present a proposal on the shared validity of immunization certificates.

“We are adamant about reversing the current trend…

“We’re also mindful that we need to send citizens clear, consistent messages,” she added.

According to, EU ideas could include making the vaccine passport only valid for 12 months after the second dosage.

The COVID-19 vaccine certificate, according to a source within the EU policy network, will only be valid for one year following the final dosage.

According to reports, the European Commission is working on “either a recommendation or a delegated act to expand the use of Covid certificates to EU travel.”

Fully immunized travelers will be required to obtain a COVID-19 vaccine 12 months after their second dosage.

This could imply that British expats residing in Europe will need to get a booster shot after a year to keep their vaccine passports valid.

Travellers who have not been vaccinated or who have not received the booster shot will be required to take a test in order to transit Europe.

Since July 2021, the EU Digital Certificate has been in effect.

It was initially scheduled to end on June 30, 2022.

The certificate is currently issued and accepted by all EU and Schengen Area nations.

The European Vaccine Passport is also accepted in the United Kingdom.

The EU will announce this week whether and for how long the Covid passport will be required for travel.
