A couple are raffling off their stunning three-bedroom house in West Sussex for £2.50 a ticket – and the winner will walk away with a £475,000 mortgage-free home.
Former professional snowboarder Jan Michaelis, a two-time Olympian and halfpipe world cup winner, and his wife Alina ‘reluctantly’ decided to put the property on the market to find somewhere bigger to accommodate their growing family and relatives from abroad.
Sea Mist Bungalow is a modern bungalow situated in a quiet cul-de-sac in the heart of the affluent village of West Wittering, where famous neighbours include Keith Richards, Nicholas Lyndhurst, Kate Winslet and Michael Ball.
The home is in walking distance of the blue flag beaches at East Head which are ranked among Britain’s most beautiful, and in a National Trust Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
It also boasts a secluded 256 sq ft one-bedroom garden cabin complete with an en suite and its own sunny decked terrace.
Jan, 42, originally from Hamburg, Germany, told FEMAIL they decided to launch the competition to give someone the opportunity to enjoy a ‘dream life by the beach’.
‘We reluctantly decided to sell and find a bigger place locally that will accommodate our growing families from abroad for longer visits in the future,’ he explained.
‘We opted for the raffle route as we see it as an opportunity to do something good whilst selling our house. We want to raise £50,000 for charities close to our heart whilst giving away our home to one lucky winner on October 30 this year.
‘And with no mortgage to pay and stamp duty and conveyancing fees covered, there really is nothing to lose!’
The competition launched last week on August 6 and Jan said it has already attracted a great deal of interest.
He added: ‘We know a lot of people are currently looking to get on the property ladder, relocate or change their lifestyles.
‘The surge in staycations also shows that a lot of people are not travelling abroad and are making the most of home offices and flexible working arrangements whilst spending time in beautiful places.
‘It’s definitely been a lot of work to put this together and a steep learning curve, but we’re just really excited to be here and have launched our website successfully.’
Jan and Alina, who have a daughter, have lived in the property for over eight years and during this time have modernised and extended the bungalow to include the studio annex.
Sea Mist Bungalow is just two hours from the capital, with great potential for short and long term lets as well as steady buyer demand in the area.
The entrance to the property takes you into the hallway, which features built-in storage and leads to the open-plan living room and dining area with large west-facing sliding doors to garden.
The dining area connects to the modern kitchen with quality fitted appliances including a Bosch gas hob and Zannussi oven.
The kitchen overlooks the well-maintained garden while east facing patio doors lead out to the large terrace for al fresco dining.
The master bedroom boasts an en-suite and the couple have permission in place to double the bungalow’s floor space by adding two bedrooms and a further bathroom.
The self-contained cabin features a kitchenette and a large south-west facing deck ideal for summer BBQs, yoga sessions or enjoying the idyllic sunsets.
Its open-plan layout could be used as separate accommodation for a teenager or friends and family, a holiday let, or a home office or gym space.
The sleeping area includes a king-sized bed, a small built-in wardrobe and an en-suite bathroom with a modern walk-in power shower.
The couple need to sell 240,000 tickets to be able to give the property away and cover the transfer costs for the winner, which includes stamp duty up to £15,000, conveyancing fees up to £1,500, and up to £2,000 for its first year’s running cost, as well as other expenses and the charitable donation.
The worthy causes the couple have chosen include end of life care for local patients, supporting people living with asthma and protection of places of historic interest and natural beauty.
If they don’t reach their target, the winner will receive a cash prize instead while a proportional donation will be made to charity. You will be asked an easy question prior to entering the competition.
