Coronation Street fans outraged as David and Nick’s sentencing is revealed

CORONATION Street viewers weren’t happy with the outcome of David and Nick’s trial.

Tonight’s Coronation Street saw the judge sentence David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) and Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) after they stole their grandmother’s money.

Throughout the trial, Nick had been heaping the blame on David but tonight finally came clean.

He said: “I lied. I can’t let my brother take the blame for something he didn’t do.

“I do have a brain injury and it affects me in various ways but it was my idea to take gran’s money. I wasn’t manipulated by him or coerced – I took it.”

He went on: “I’m sorry. I wanted to protect my family but he’s got a family as well.

“I lied to my solicitor, I lied to my partner and to this court.

“I’m to blame for using my grandmother’s money. It’s down to me.”

However despite his admission of guilt, Nick was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for two years due to some mitigating factors.

Meanwhile, David was handed an eight-month sentence with four served behind bars and another on license.

Viewers were fuming with the outcome, with one tweeting: “I fail to see how Nick completely got off with that regardless of previous convictions? He didn’t just nick a tenner off his gran, he stole 80k and lied about it in court.”

Another wrote: “So the moral to the story is rip your gran off of all her money, lie like f***, blame your brother and then tell the truth and you’ll get off with it. Can’t be bad.”

A third said: “Can we start a Free David campaign like Deirdre had back in the day? It’s not fair.”

And someone else added: “Yes, the storyline gets worse. Nick admits it’s all down to him. Guess what, judge says he can go free and sends David to prison. Yay, justice. Bonkers.”

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
