Law enforcement has identified and is looking for a suspect in the politically motivated attack on a Colombian highway, which has resulted in 20 fatalities.
The BBC and The Miami Herald stated that Colombian Minister of Defence Pedro Sanchez claimed that Ivan Jacob Idrobo Arredondo, also known as “Marlon,” gave the command for the Saturday morning bombing on the Pan-American Highway.
Arredondo is thought to be a former member of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, also known as the FARC. He is a member of a dissident group that left the group when it signed a peace agreement with the Colombian government in 2016.
Following the bombing, Colombian President Gustavo Petro declared, “Those who carried out the attack … are terrorists, fascists and drug traffickers.”
“I want the strongest possible global action against this narco-terrorist group,” he stated. “I want the people of Cauca to be free from this mafia,” he declared.
The Central General Staff EMC, a dissident organization commanded by former FARC member Ivan Mordisco, is believed to have authorised the attack on the highway on Saturday.
