‘Climate infringement!’ Around COP26, eco-activists deflate the tyres of expensive SUVs.
ECO-ACTIVISTS have wreaked havoc on Glasgow’s streets by deflating the tyres of “luxury” SUVs to raise awareness of climate change and greenhouse gas emissions.
Several SUVs in the city’s affluent West End were left with fliers declaring them to be “climate violators.” Police Scotland confirmed that it was aware of the incidents and that patrols in the area had been increased.
No arrests have been made, according to a spokesman for the force who talked to express.co.uk.
Thousands of activists have been to Glasgow in recent weeks for the United Nations climate summit, which finishes on Friday.
On Thursday morning, pharmacist Jamie MacConnacher noticed his Land Rover’s two front tyres had been flattened.
He stated, ” “I don’t believe that going after individuals who own these automobiles is the best way to go about it. They have no idea why someone would own such a vehicle.” He said, ” “I recognize the need for change, and I support it wholeheartedly. I’d like to have an electric car, but the difficulties in Glasgow’s west end are prohibitive.
“It doesn’t work for me because there’s nowhere to charge outside your flat.
Mr. MacConnacher’s vehicle had a leaflet on it that warned it was “driving the climate collapse,” especially in developing countries.
Later, the activist group ‘Tyred of SUVs’ claimed responsibility, claiming responsibility for deflating the tyres of roughly 60 automobiles in the “wealthy neighborhood.”
According to a representative for the organisation, “If 4×4 drivers were a country, they’d be the world’s seventh-largest polluters.”
“If the 1% won’t take responsibility for the climate catastrophe they cause, we’ll make them,” the representative added.
Finn, a member of the Tyred gang, also had something to say about the activities.
She stated, ” “We believe we need to do this because we need to identify those who are culpable. That’s a group of wealthy people in the global north.” She went on to say: “This is a small annoyance that will not significantly interrupt the person’s life. The climatic problem produced by wealthy individuals in the global north, primarily SUV owners, will wreak havoc on people’s lives and kill them.” “The urgency of this message made it necessary and deserved this disturbance,” she said. “We are aware of these incidents and will be increasing patrols in the area to provide reassurance to local residents,” Police Scotland stated.
