China’s “sleeper spies” apply for a special visa in the UK aimed at Hong Kong residents, according to a report.
According to reports, China is utilizing spies posing as refugees as part of a visa program for Hong Kong residents.
According to government sources, Chinese “sleeper spies” have filed for British National (Overseas) visas.
Sleeper spies infiltrate a country with the intention of remaining there in the long run as a possible asset.
“There are tough background checks in place for visa applications — and they’re in place for a reason,” the person told the Times.
“The BNO visa system has a considerably more extensive verification process than any other.”
The last governor of Hong Kong, Lord Patten of Barnes, warned that China would try to invade the United Kingdom.
“We are dealing with a totalitarian state that employs informers,” he stated.
“Anyone who is concerned that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) will attempt to deploy informers and those who will steal security secrets in open societies is completely right.
“It’s time for us to get serious about this.”
Hong Kong’s Chinese rulers urged foreign consulates earlier this year to refuse British travel documents, escalating tensions between Beijing and London.
As of January this year, the Hong Kong government told many foreign consulates that the British National Overseas (BNO) passport was no longer acknowledged as an acceptable document.
