Chelsea news: £90m keeper bid REJECTED, Willian and Hazard exits still on, Kante could go

CHELSEA news and gossip – Starsport brings you all the latest from Stamford Bridge.

Kepa Arrizabalaga was not Maurizio Sarri’s first choice as Thibaut Courtois’ replacement it has been revealed.

The new Blues boss actually wanted Atletico Madrid star Jan Oblak as his No.1 with the Belgian departing for Real Madrid.

Chelsea went as far as activating Oblak’s £90m release clause in the belief that he would want to move to Stamford Bridge.

But the Slovenian stopper rejected the club in favour of staying at the La Liga club.

“Money talks and I’d be very worried if I was the Chelsea manager.”

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson

It is believed that the fact Chelsea did not qualify for this season’s Champions League played a part in his decision.

According to The Times, Atletico have rewarded Oblak with pay boost for turning down the opportunity to join the Premier League outfit.

Chelsea could yet sell star men Willian and Eden Hazard this summer, according to Sky Sports pundit Matt Le Tissier.

“I don’t think you can take it as a given (that they will stay),” he said of Willian, who has also been linked with Real and rivals Barcelona, and Hazard.

Chelsea star Eden Hazard could join Real Madrid this month

“The opportunity is there and if somebody came in, a Barcelona came back in for Willian at £90m or something, would you turn it down?

“As a business can you turn it down? That’s a lot of money.”

Chelsea boss Sarri could still lose three key players, according to Paul Merson.

“As you said about Hazard and Willian, I’d put Kante in there,” Merson said.

“Who wouldn’t want him? If PSG or someone come in and go ‘oh, £100m’.

“The season tickets are sold now, the ground’s sold out.

“Chelsea haven’t got to worry about selling seats.

“Money talks and I’d be very worried if I was the Chelsea manager at the moment, just because they’ve got three big, big players there that could easily play for Barcelona or Real Madrid any day of the week.”
