Brentford take Neal Maupay action amid Aston Villa and West Ham transfer interest

ASTON VILLA and West Ham target Neal Maupay has been withdrawn from Brentford’s squad for today’s pre-season friendly against Dynamo Kiev.

Ongoing speculation over Maupay’s future has caused Brentford boss Thomas Frank to leave the striker out of his plans for the clash.

Aston Villa in particular are tracking Maupay, with manager Dean Smith working with the 22-year-old while in charge of the Bees.

Brentford have allowed the striker to return to France for three days amid unrest over where he will play his football come August.

Maupuy has a £20m price tag on his head, but is expected to return to training on Tuesday, reports Sky Sports.

Villa have already spent big in an effort to cement their Premier League status following promotion.

Brazilian striker Wesley has joined for a club-record fee from Club Brugge, but he is the only forward to join so far this summer.

Villa’s top scorer last term was Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham, but he has returned to Stamford Bridge.

Smith is therefore looking to ensure his side have enough firepower to cope in the top flight and sees Maupuy as an ideal target.

The Brentford frontman scored 28 times last term as Brentford secured a mid-table finish.

He has already seen team-mate Ezri Konsa join his former boss at Villa Park and could yet follow.

West Ham though will also provide competition and are in the market for a striker themselves.

The departures of Andy Carroll, Lucas Perez and Marco Arnautovic leaves the Hammers short of firepower.

A deal was thought to have been agreed for Celta Vigo star Maxi Gomez, but the move has cooled in recent days.

Sheffield United and Brighton are also tracking Maupay, but wouldn’t be able to match the finances offered by the two sides in claret and blue.
