Bernie Sanders ‘expressing concerns’ Joe Biden’s campaign isn’t progressive enough to energize Democrat base

SENATOR Bernie Sanders’ has been expressing concerns over Joe Biden’s presidential campaign, the Washington Post has reported, and is urging Biden’s team to appeal to liberal voters.

According to three people familiar with Sanders’ private conservations, Sanders has said Biden is at risk of losing the election if he continues to be too centrist.

Biden should talk more about health care, economic plans, and should campaign more alongside individuals who are popular with youths, such as Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Sanders has reportedly said.

Faiz Shakir, Sanders’ campaign manager, released a statement regarding the alleged comments: “Senator Sanders is confident that Joe Biden is in a very strong position to win this election, but nevertheless feels there are areas the campaign can continue to improve upon.”

He continued: “He has been in direct contact with the Biden team and has urged them to put more emphasis on how they will raise wages, create millions of good paying jobs, lower the cost of prescription drugs and expand health care coverage.”

Shakir added that Sanders thinks a “stronger outreach” to young people, the Latino community and the progressive movement would be “of real help to the campaign”.

The Biden campaign has not yet commented.

On Friday, it emerged that Trump had accused Biden of taking performance enhancing drug.

Trump’s shocking – and unbacked – claim came during an interview with Fox News that is set to air on Saturday.

Trump’s comments came as he referred to what he thought was a sudden increase in Biden’s performance at Democratic debates.

“I think there’s probably — possibly — drugs involved. That’s what I hear. There’s possibly drugs,” Trump claimed to Fox host Jeanine Pirro.

There has been no evidence to suggest Biden’s use of drugs.

Biden’s campaign did not immediately respond to The Sun’s request for comment.

Trump continued: “I don’t know how you can go from being so bad where you can’t even get out a sentence…”

The president then went on to reference Biden’s performance during Democratic debates.

“I mean, you saw some of those debates with the large number of people on the stage,” Trump said.

“He was — I mean, I used to say, ‘How is it possible that he can even go forward?'”

This is not the first time Trump has made the unbacked suggestion.

Trump made the claim when speaking with Fox’s Laura Ingraham.

“I watched Biden in the Bernie debate and he was normal. That was a different guy,” Trump said.

“He’s on some kind of an enhancement in my opinion,” he claimed to Ingraham when asked what he thinks Biden is taking.

Trump also made the suggestion during an interview with The Washington Examiner on August 26.

The president claimed “nobody thought” Biden would win, “because his debate performances were so bad.”

“Frankly, his best performance was against Bernie. We’re going to call for a drug test, by the way, because his best performance was against Bernie,” Trump told the Washington Examiner.

“It wasn’t that he was Winston Churchill because he wasn’t, but it was a normal, boring debate.

“You know, nothing amazing happened. And we are going to call for a drug test because there’s no way — you can’t do that,” he added.

In the interview set to air on Fox on Saturday, Trump also claimed that Biden only swung the Democratic presidential nomination because Senator Elizabeth Warren “didn’t drop out.”

“Had she dropped out, Bernie would have won Super Tuesday, every state and you would have had Bernie instead of Biden,” Trump told Fox.
