Authorities in Laredo are currently conducting an investigation after six bodies were found inside a Union Pacific boxcar at a Texas railyard on Sunday afternoon.
Officers were alerted to the area just after 2:30 p.m. near mile marker 13 along 12100 Jim Young Way, according to the Laredo Police Department, where they discovered multiple dead victims inside a cargo train car.
Six individuals perished in the hot train car, according to officials. The length of time they were imprisoned within is now known, according to News4SA.
As detectives worked at the scene on Sunday, the local temperature rose to the upper 90s. The inquiry is still ongoing, according to the police.
Investigator Joe E. Baeza of the Laredo Police confirmed the deaths.
The circumstances inside the confined metal boxcar would have quickly turned dangerously hot, although investigators have not yet stated whether heat exposure contributed to the deaths.
As officers and emergency personnel continued to process the site, the Laredo Police Department verified by late afternoon that the investigation was still ongoing.

Whether the victims were migrants has not been disclosed by investigators. Additionally, authorities have not provided an explanation for how the remains were found.
